Network Services Division Telecommunications Technician
Freestate Electrical is looking for an experienced lead Telecommunication Technician
responsible for the installation, modification, repair, and maintenance of structured
cabling. Duties include installation of cabling, overseeing the work of others,
surveying work sites to determine the best installation practices, and coordinating
workflow within the unit. The lead technician is responsible for making independent
decisions when normal procedures or guidelines are not established.
Key Responsibilities:
• Install category cabling, fiber optic structured cable distribution systems, and
video surveillance and access control cabling.
• Install outlets; pull cable; firestopping; and pre-termination including
organizing, forming, dressing, and labeling cables to industry standards.
• Terminate and assemble 8-pin modular connectors and coaxial connectors;
light crimp connectors; and optical fiber ST, SC, and LC ceramic connectors.
• Perform cable splices for copper and optical fiber (mechanical and fusion).
• Accurately test and save copper and fiber (MM & SM) cables to required
certification parameters utilizing test equipment as required.
• Diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems.
• Removal and demolition of abandoned cables.
• Maintain and reference industry standards including ANSI, EIA/TIA and local
and national electric codes.
• Perform site surveys, read and use blueprints and floor plans, and conduct
visual site inspections.
• Determine closet and equipment layouts and install hardware including
backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels, and fiber enclosures.
• Notify office staff of materials to be ordered for stock/projects.
• Ability to properly instruct other technicians on techniques and work as
needed to maintain project workflow. Provide professional and courteous
interaction with customer, including meeting with customer to review
projects and providing customer with updates when required.
